Brantley Snipes Hired as New Main Street Director
Main Street Greenwood, Inc. is pleased to announce that Brantley Snipes has been hired as its new Executive Director, effective April 2, 2012.
Miss Snipes is a native of Greenville, Mississippi and a graduate of Washington School. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Horticulture from Auburn University, and a Master of Landscape Architecture and Master of Horticultural Science degrees from North Carolina State University.
Her experience includes serving as a stormwater consultant with the North Carolina Watershed Education for Community Officials, teaching assistant for the Department of Horticulture at North Carolina State University, and internships with the North Carolina State Historic Preservation Office and Southern Homes and Gardens in Montgomery, Alabama.
In addition Miss Snipes served as a research assistant for the USDA National Soils Laboratory at Auburn.
“Main Street is excited to have Brantley Snipes as our new Executive Director,” said Dale Riser, Main Street past president and search committee chair. “She has an infectious enthusiasm and intelligence that speaks well of her qualifications for this job, and our board thinks she’s going to bring new ideas to the table and improve upon the successes we already have in place.”
Riser continued, “She’s from the Delta, and is purposefully moving back here after college in order to make a difference. With several downtown projects underway or upcoming, including the Main Street façade grant, the Carrollton-Johnson façade grant, our farmer’s market, several street projects, and the Linear Park along the abandoned rail bed, Brantley will be coming in at a critical time for the next phase of what has been a good track record of our organization working with City and County leaders to make Greenwood one of the premier places to visit, and live, in the Delta.”
A reception will be held on Thursday, April 12 at 5 p.m. at the Alluvian Hotel to welcome Brantley Snipes, and the public is invited.
Main Street Greenwood was organized in 1995 and promotes and celebrates downtown Greenwood through the preservation of our historic resources and through projects, events, and activities that make downtown a viable place to live, work, and visit.
